Equipment

  • 1 Pot Large enough to hold the rice and water for simmering.

Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup Short-grain rice Rinsed and soaked in cold water for at least 1 hour
  • 8 cups Water Or chicken/vegetable broth for more flavor
  • to taste Salt
  • 1/4 cup Shredded chicken Cooked
  • 1 Green onion Finely chopped
  • Sesame seeds Toasted
  • to taste Soy sauce
  • to taste Sesame oil

Instructions
 

  • Drain rice after soaking and combine with 8 cups of water in a large pot.
  • Bring to a boil over high heat, then reduce to a low simmer.
  • Stir occasionally to prevent sticking on the bottom of the pot.
  • Simmer for about 1 hour, or until the porridge reaches a creamy consistency.
  • Season with salt to taste.
  • Serve hot, garnished with optional toppings like shredded chicken, green onions, toasted sesame seeds, a dash of soy sauce, and sesame oil to taste.
