Equipment

  • 1 Rolling Pin For rolling out the pie crust
  • 1 Pie dish For baking the apple pie
  • 1 Pastry brush For applying the egg wash

Ingredients
  

  • 2 1/2 cups All-purpose flour
  • 1 cup Unsalted butter Chilled and diced
  • 1/4 tsp Salt
  • 6-8 tbsp Ice water
  • 6 Apples Peeled, cored, and sliced
  • 3/4 cup Granulated sugar
  • 2 tbsp All-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp Ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp Ground nutmeg
  • 1 tbsp Lemon juice
  • 1 Egg Beaten
  • 1 tbsp Milk

Instructions
 

  • In a bowl, combine flour and salt. Add butter and mix until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  • Gradually add ice water, mixing just until dough holds together. Divide in half, wrap in plastic, and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
  • Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C).
  • In a large bowl, toss apple slices with sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice.
  • Roll out one half of the dough to fit a 9-inch pie dish. Place crust in pie dish and fill with apple mixture.
  • Roll out the second half of the dough and place over the filling. Seal and flute the edges, and cut slits for steam to escape.
  • Mix the beaten egg with milk and brush over the top crust.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 15 minutes. Reduce temperature to 350°F (175°C) and continue baking for 30 to 45 minutes, or until apples are soft and crust is golden brown.
  • Let cool before serving.

Notes

For added flavor, try using a mix of tart and sweet apples. You can also sprinkle some sugar on top of the egg wash for extra sweetness.
