Equipment

  • 1 Baking sheet For baking the breadsticks
  • 1 Rolling pin To roll the dough

Ingredients
  

  • 2 cups All-purpose flour Plus extra for dusting
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 1 pkg Active dry yeast Approx. 7g
  • 1/2 tsp Sugar
  • 3/4 cup Warm water About 110°F
  • 2 tbsp Olive oil Plus extra for brushing

Instructions
 

  • In a large bowl, mix flour and salt. Set aside.
  • In a small bowl, dissolve yeast and sugar in warm water. Let sit for about 5 minutes until foamy.
  • Add yeast mixture and olive oil to the flour. Mix until a dough forms.
  • Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until smooth.
  • Place dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place until doubled, about 1 hour.
  • Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
  • Punch down the dough and roll out into a rectangle about 1/4 inch thick.
  • Cut into thin strips and place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  • Brush with olive oil and bake for 15-20 minutes until golden and crisp.
  • Remove from oven and let cool on a wire rack.

Notes

For added flavor, sprinkle sesame seeds or herbs over the breadsticks before baking.
