Equipment

  • 1 Saucepan For making caramel
  • 1 Baking dish To bake the custard
  • 1 Mixing Bowl To prepare the custard mixture

Ingredients
  

  • 1/2 cup Sugar
  • 2 tbsp Water
  • 2 cups Milk Full-fat recommended
  • 3 units Eggs Large
  • 1/3 cup Sugar
  • 1 tsp Vanilla extract

Instructions
 

  • In a saucepan, combine sugar and water, and cook over medium heat until the mixture turns golden brown.
  • Quickly pour the caramel into a baking dish and spread evenly.
  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a mixing bowl, whisk together eggs, sugar, and vanilla extract until well combined.
  • Heat the milk gently until warm and gradually whisk into the egg mixture.
  • Pour the custard mixture over the caramel in the baking dish.
  • Place the baking dish in a larger pan filled with hot water to create a water bath.
  • Bake for 30 minutes or until the custard is set and a knife inserted comes out clean.
  • Allow to cool, then refrigerate for a few hours before serving inverted on a plate.

Notes

For a richer taste, the milk can be replaced with a mixture of milk and cream.
