Mint Julep Recipe

Follow this recipe to prepare a classic Mint Julep, a traditional Southern cocktail made with fresh mint, sugar, bourbon, and crushed ice.

Equipment

  • 1 Julep cup or glass For serving the cocktail
  • 1 Muddler For extracting mint oils

Ingredients
  

  • 10 leaves Fresh mint Plus a sprig for garnish
  • 1 tsp Sugar Or to taste
  • 2 oz Bourbon
  • 1 cup Crushed ice

Instructions
 

  • Place mint leaves and sugar in a julep cup and gently muddle with a muddler to release mint oils.
  • Fill the cup with crushed ice, then pour bourbon over the ice.
  • Stir gently until the cup becomes frosty on the outside.
  • Top with more crushed ice and garnish with a sprig of mint.
  • Serve immediately, using a straw, if desired.

Notes

For a lighter version, substitute half of the bourbon with soda water.
