Equipment

  • 1 Baking tray For baking the sausage rolls
  • 1 Rolling pin For rolling out the pastry
  • 1 Pastry brush For brushing the pastry with egg wash

Ingredients
  

  • 500 g Sausage meat
  • 1 sheet Puff pastry Thawed
  • 1 Egg Beaten, for egg wash
  • 1 tsp Dried herbs Such as thyme or mixed herbs
  • 1 tbsp Breadcrumbs Optional, for binding
  • to taste Salt and pepper

Instructions
 

  • Preheat your oven to 200°C (400°F).
  • In a bowl, mix together sausage meat, dried herbs, breadcrumbs (if using), salt, and pepper.
  • Roll out the puff pastry on a floured surface to even out any folds.
  • Place the sausage meat mixture along one edge of the pastry, shaping it into a log.
  • Roll the pastry over the sausage meat, sealing the edges with water or beaten egg.
  • Cut the rolled pastry into portions and place them on a baking tray lined with parchment paper.
  • Brush the tops with beaten egg for a golden finish.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown and cooked through.
  • Serve warm or at room temperature.

Notes

For a vegetarian version, substitute sausage meat with a vegetarian sausage or meat substitute.
