Follow this recipe to prepare a delicious Shepherd's Pie, a classic and comforting dish made with ground meat and vegetables, topped with creamy mashed potatoes.

Equipment

  • 1 Oven-safe dish For baking the pie
  • 1 Large skillet For cooking the filling
  • 1 Potato masher For mashing the potatoes

Ingredients
  

  • 500 g Ground lamb or beef
  • 1 Onion Chopped
  • 2 cloves Garlic Minced
  • 2 tbsp Tomato paste
  • 1 cup Mixed vegetables Peas, carrots, corn
  • 1 cup Beef stock
  • 1 tsp Salt Or to taste
  • 1/2 tsp Black pepper Freshly ground
  • 4 Potatoes Peeled and chopped
  • 1/2 cup Milk Warm
  • 2 tbsp Butter
  • to taste Salt
  • to taste Black pepper Freshly ground

Instructions
 

  • Preheat oven to 200°C (390°F).
  • In a large skillet, cook ground meat over medium heat until browned. Drain excess fat.
  • Add chopped onion and minced garlic to the skillet, and sauté until onion is translucent.
  • Stir in tomato paste, mixed vegetables, beef stock, salt, and black pepper. Simmer for 10 minutes.
  • Boil potatoes in salted water until tender. Drain and return to the pot.
  • Add warm milk, butter, salt, and black pepper to the potatoes. Mash until smooth.
  • Spread the meat and vegetable mixture evenly in an oven-safe dish.
  • Top with mashed potatoes, spreading evenly and fluffing with a fork for texture.
  • Bake in preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the top is golden brown.
  • Let cool for a few minutes before serving hot.

Notes

For a lighter version, use turkey or chicken instead of lamb or beef.
