Sweet Korean Pancake Hotteok Recipe

Equipment

  • 1 Mixing Bowl For preparing the dough
  • 1 Non-stick skillet For frying the pancakes

Ingredients
  

  • 2.5 cups All-purpose flour
  • 1 cup Warm water
  • 2 tsp Instant yeast
  • 2 tbsp Granulated sugar
  • 1/2 tsp Salt
  • 1 tbsp Vegetable oil
  • 1/2 cup Brown sugar
  • 2 tsp Cinnamon powder
  • 1/4 cup Crushed walnuts
  • 1/4 cup Crushed peanuts Optional

Instructions
 

  • In a large bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5 minutes until frothy.
  • Add flour, salt, and vegetable oil to the yeast mixture and knead until a smooth dough forms.
  • Cover the bowl with a kitchen towel and let the dough rest in a warm place for about 1 hour, until doubled in size.
  • In a small bowl, mix together the brown sugar, cinnamon powder, walnuts, and peanuts.
  • Divide the dough into equal-sized balls. Flatten each ball and place a spoonful of the filling mixture in the center.
  • Bring the edges of the dough together to seal and form a ball again with the filling inside.
  • Heat a non-stick skillet over medium heat and add a little vegetable oil.
  • Place the filled dough balls seam-side down in the skillet. Flatten them gently with a spatula.
  • Cook for about 2-3 minutes on each side or until golden brown and cooked through. Serve hot.

Notes

For variation, you can fill the pancakes with different types of nuts or add seeds like sesame for additional texture.
