Follow this recipe to prepare a traditional British dish, Toad in the Hole, made with sausages baked in a Yorkshire pudding batter.

Equipment

  • 1 Oven Preheated to 220°C (425°F)
  • 1 Baking dish For baking the Toad in the Hole
  • 1 Mixing Bowl For preparing the batter
  • 1 Whisk For mixing the batter

Ingredients
  

  • 150 g Plain flour
  • 2 Eggs
  • 150 ml Milk
  • 150 ml Water
  • to taste Salt
  • to taste Pepper
  • 8 Sausages
  • 2 tbsp Vegetable oil

Instructions
 

  • Preheat the oven to 220°C (425°F).
  • Combine the flour, eggs, milk, and water in a mixing bowl. Whisk until smooth.
  • Season the batter with salt and pepper, and set aside.
  • Add the vegetable oil to a baking dish and place it in the preheated oven until the oil is hot and shimmering.
  • Add the sausages to the hot oil in the baking dish. Bake for about 10 minutes, or until they start to brown.
  • Carefully pour the batter over the sausages.
  • Return the dish to the oven and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the batter is risen and golden brown.
  • Remove from the oven and allow to rest for a few minutes. Serve hot with onion gravy and vegetables.

Notes

For a vegetarian version, use vegetarian sausages instead of meat sausages.
