Follow this recipe to prepare delicious yeast doughnuts, soft and fluffy on the inside with a golden brown exterior.

Equipment

  • 1 Mixing Bowl For combining ingredients
  • 1 Rolling Pin To roll out the dough
  • 1 Deep fryer or large pot For frying the doughnuts
  • 1 Doughnut cutter To cut the doughnut shapes

Ingredients
  

  • 3 1/2 cups All-purpose flour plus more for dusting
  • 1 packet Active dry yeast (about 2 1/4 teaspoons)
  • 1 cup Whole milk warmed to about 110°F
  • 1/2 cup Granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup Unsalted butter melted
  • 2 Eggs beaten
  • 1/2 tsp Salt
  • 2 cups Powdered sugar
  • 1/4 cup Milk
  • 1/2 tsp Vanilla extract

Instructions
 

  • In a bowl, combine warm milk, yeast, and a pinch of sugar. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.
  • In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, and salt.
  • Add melted butter, eggs, and the yeast mixture to the dry ingredients. Mix until a dough forms.
  • Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  • Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it, and let it rise in a warm place for 1-1.5 hours or until doubled in size.
  • Punch down the dough, then roll it out to about 1/2 inch thick on a floured surface.
  • Use a doughnut cutter to cut out doughnuts. Re-roll the scraps as needed.
  • Heat oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 350°F. Fry doughnuts in batches until golden brown on both sides, about 1-2 minutes per side.
  • Remove doughnuts and drain on paper towels.
  • Dip each doughnut in the glaze while warm and let it set on a rack.

Notes

For a variation, try adding cinnamon to the glaze or sprinkle with powdered sugar.
