Follow this recipe to prepare a delicious Pain Perdu, also known as French Toast, a classic dish made by soaking stale bread in a custard mixture and then frying it to perfection.

Equipment

  • 1 Mixing bowl For preparing the custard mixture

Ingredients
  

  • 4 slices Stale bread Slightly thick slices
  • 2 Eggs
  • 1 cup Milk
  • 1 tsp Vanilla extract
  • 2 tbsp Sugar Or to taste
  • 1/2 tsp Ground cinnamon Optional
  • 2 tbsp Butter For frying

Instructions
 

  • In a mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, vanilla extract, sugar, and cinnamon (if using) until well combined.
  • Heat butter in a frying pan over medium heat.
  • Dip each slice of bread into the custard mixture, ensuring both sides are well-soaked.
  • Place the soaked bread slices in the pan and cook until golden brown on each side, about 2-3 minutes per side.
  • Remove from the pan and serve hot with your favorite toppings such as syrup, fresh fruit, or powdered sugar.

Notes

For a richer flavor, use brioche or challah bread. Adjust the sugar and toppings to suit your taste.
