Follow this recipe to prepare delicious Pierogi, traditional Polish dumplings filled with a variety of savory or sweet fillings.

Equipment

  • 1 Large Pot For boiling the pierogi
  • 1 Frying pan For frying the boiled pierogi
  • 1 Rolling Pin For rolling the dough

Ingredients
  

  • 3 cups All-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 1 cup Sour cream
  • 1 whole Egg Lightly beaten
  • 1/2 cup Water Adjust as needed
  • 2 cups Mashed potatoes Well seasoned
  • 1 cup Cheese Cheddar or farmer's cheese
  • 1 tbsp Butter Melted
  • to taste Salt and pepper

Instructions
 

  • In a bowl, mix flour and salt, make a well in the center.
  • Add sour cream, beaten egg, and water, mix to form a dough.
  • Knead the dough until smooth, cover and let it rest for 30 minutes.
  • In a bowl, mix mashed potatoes, cheese, butter, salt, and pepper.
  • Roll out the dough to about 1/8 inch thickness and cut into circles.
  • Place a spoonful of filling in the center of each circle.
  • Fold the dough over to form a half-moon shape, sealing the edges.
  • Boil the pierogi in salted water for 3-4 minutes, until they float.
  • Drain and then fry in a pan with butter until golden brown.
  • Serve warm with sour cream or caramelized onions.

Notes

For a vegetarian version, use only the potato and cheese filling without any meat additions. Variations can include sauerkraut, mushrooms, or even sweet fillings like fruit.
