Pain Perdu Recipe

If you want a delicious and nostalgic breakfast treat, Pain Perdu, also known as French Toast, is the perfect choice. This classic dish transforms stale bread into a golden-brown delight, soaked in a creamy egg mixture and fried to perfection. Ideal for a luxurious weekend brunch or a comforting midweek breakfast, Pain Perdu is sure to become a family favorite.

Tips to Make the Pain Perdu Recipe:

1. Use Day-Old Bread: The best Pain Perdu starts with day-old or slightly stale bread. This bread soaks up the egg mixture better without getting too soggy, resulting in a richer and more satisfying texture.

2. Choose the Right Bread: Opt for thicker slices of bread, such as brioche, challah, or French baguette. These types of bread have a sturdy texture that holds up well during soaking and cooking.

3. Prepare the Egg Mixture in Advance: Mix your eggs, milk, sugar, and vanilla extract the night before. This allows the flavors to meld together and makes morning preparation quick and easy.

4. Soak Thoroughly: Give your bread slices ample time to soak in the egg mixture, approximately 2 minutes per side. This ensures that the custard mixture penetrates deeply, giving your Pain Perdu its characteristic creamy middle.

5. Cook on Medium Heat: Fry the soaked bread slices on a medium heat, in a buttered pan. This prevents the outsides from browning too quickly and ensures even cooking.

Follow these simple tips and you’ll have a delightful Pain Perdu to enjoy any morning.
